Keeping busy

DO ALL THE THINGS.

Last Saturday, I tested up to Blue Belt! I feel pretty freaking awesome about that.

Earl has been very busy with his new contracting gig, and he's actually having to commute for it. It's chewing up a lot of his evenings. I'm trying to do a lot of things to 'make up' for the time he's spending.

Tree hugging crunchy hippy freaks

I made dinner tonight. A cross rib roast from our meat CSA, with chard from our produce CSA, and rice leftover from last night :)

The roast? It could've used some more spicing - I didn't give it enough coating to get the flavors all the way down into the meat, but even without that? WOW, it was so good. I pulled it out of the oven at around 130F, and it sat for about 45 minutes while I cut chard and sauteed it in olive oil, garlic, and salt.

For the sake of...

Conversation:
Me: After trying two recipes from the Sweet Melissa cookbook, I am willing to tentatively declare it a winner.
Earl: Yes, but clearly more tests are required.
Me: I am willing to continue experiments to further refine my findings.
Earl: For the sake of our bodies, perhaps you should make them only a couple of times a month.
Me: .. agreed.

Because the chocolate cake was SO GOOD.

Stuff and things

ob 'i suck at posting' comment.

Ok, so. I'm supposed to be at 75% of recovery for working out. I'm definitely at BEST at that point. I'm definitely not 100%. In another week or so I'm supposed to be back to 100%. Theoretically I can test for blue belt at that point. I should actually answer my questions and turn them in so I can do start actually prepping for that. Sprout is getting there. I'm pretty proud of her.

Am I recovered yet?

Well, no. Not as much as I wish I were, in any case. The sutures are SUPER annoying. They poke under my skin and that is literally extremely irritating. I still have to be careful when I lift. But other than that, I'm doing pretty darn well. I'm happy with my progress, and so was my surgeon when I saw him last week for the follow up. I'm just.. ugh, sitting all the time :P

I was considering jumping in to help with the lower belts at kung fu tonight, but then I kicked a chair yesterday. TWICE. About 3 hours apart. WITH THE SAME TOE. Now my left little toe is all purple and black.

Continuing to do well!

I am, anyway. The kids, not so much. Colds and stuff are rampaging through the house again, which is particularly bad for the little guy. He's asleep, propped up on my body pillow so he coughs less. He woke up at 5 this morning :(

Gall bladders? Who needs those?

Apparently not me - thus far my recovery has been fairly mild and going well. There's some bruising around one of the surgical sites (the belly, where they have to wiggle the camera around and all that good stuff.) I haven't touched pain meds in close to two days, and I haven't had any meds for it at all since last night. I'm feeling pretty good about that. I got out of the house today for a couple of things, which was good.

Not so new weight loss technique!

I've discovered a combination of things that makes weight loss SO EASY.

1) develop gallstones.
2) decrease fat intake dramatically to prevent attacks
3) Eat much smaller meals to help prevent attacks
4) Go to the dojo 3 days a week for 45-50 minutes

What's that you say? Choosing your foods carefully and exercising can contribute to significant weight loss? THE HELL YOU SAY.

A-cleaning we will go

It's no secret that our house collects a lot of... stuff. There are three adults and two young children here. We own a great many books and movies and games. And toys. So many toys! And craft stuff. We also have particular blind spots to items in the corners, and everyone knows flat surfaces accumulate stuff.
