A letter to my kids

Tonight, our species landed a big craft on ANOTHER PLANET.

To my daughter - I let you stay up, over your father's objections, way past your bedtime so you could watch Curiosity land. I don't think you really knew what to make of it, but maybe you'll remember this when you're older and trying to figure out what you want to do with your life. You start kindergarten in just a few weeks, and I think your teachers are going to have to work hard to keep up with you and all of the things you want to explore and learn. We made the decision to put you into a science and technology program - this is where we are, and we feel pretty strongly about it. It might not ultimately be what you want later, but you'll figure it out.

To my son - you have no idea yet what a huge thing happened tonight, but I swear that if you can come up with a way to put things together later the way you take them apart now, there will be no end of people needing your skills :)

I hope you are both part of something this incredible, and I hope you get to see even more awesome things in the future
